Sustainability

We strive to be the sustainability challenger in our industry

Our goal: Becoming one of the most sustainable logistics providers by 2027

By 2027, we will be one of the most sustainable logistics options on the market.

This strategic decision will impact not only our core operations and services but also significantly reduce the environmental impact of our logistics operations.

Shipping made fossil free

Do you want to reduce the carbon footprint of your shipments? Then we have a solution. By switching to renewable fuels on your next booking with Hecksher, you can cut fossil emissions by up to 100 %.

This is how it works

When you choose maritime biofuel insets we replace the conventional fuel needed for the transport with biomethane (LBG). The biomethane is not always used in the specific ship transporting your goods. Instead, it is bunkered onto several ships according to the mass balance principle. When choosing maritime biofuel insets for your shipment, we issue a certificate for the CO2 reduction achieved through the fuel switch.

industry!

Order your shipping emissions report

At Hecksher we track emissions from our transports and offer emission reports to you as a customer. The emissions are calculated using EcoTransit, a methodology compliant with GLEC (Global Logistics Emission Council framework) and ISO14083. As a result, our emission reports cover CO2 equivalents, and air pollutants such as SOx and NOx. Our commitment to transparency and sustainability helps us and our customers make informed decisions for a better future.

Climate efficiency in logistics

We encourage you, as a customer, to always consider the most sustainable alternative for your shipment. The example below compares common modes of transport. For the same type of freight, sea freight stands out as the most environmentally friendly option, as it produces the lowest average emissions. (Note that sea freight might not be the most suitable for all type of shipments.)

Air Freight - 550 g CO2/tonne-km
Road (Truck) Freight - 105 g CO2/tonne-km
Rail Freight - 22,5 g CO2/tonne-km
Sea Freight - 9 g CO2/tonne-km

Social responsibility: Partnering for a sustainable impact

As a part of the Greencarrier group, our corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives are coordinated through the Greencarrier Spirit Fund.

Through the Greencarrier Spirit Fund, we have a proud history of taking social responsibility in our local communities. Every year, we allocate 1% of the group’s profits to various CSR-related projects. Our colleagues are then able to apply to the fund with a project or an organisation, that they think could use the help of Greencarrier. This allows us to maintain committed employees as well as diversify our CSR projects. We also allocate parts of the funds for partnerships, as we strive for long-term commitments.

Key partnership
At Hecksher, the Sweden-based social enterprise Solvatten has been a key partner since 2018. Solvatten is a Swedish organization committed to providing safe and clean water to families in developing countries through a portable water treatment and heating system. Since 2024, Hecksher has been Solvatten’s exclusive logistics partner. Read more about Solvatten.
