Supporting the shift to renewable fuels in sea, air and road freight through Book & Claim.
Through our Book & Claim solutions, you can support the replacement of fossil fuels without changing your transport setup. The renewable fuel is not necessarily used in the vessel, aircraft or truck carrying your goods. Instead, the associated calculated emission reductions are allocated to your selected freight flows and documented.
Maritime Biofuel Insets
Support the replacement of fossil marine fuel with renewable fuel through Maritime Biofuel Insets, without changing your transport routes or logistics setup.
The solution uses Book & Claim: renewable fuel is used in maritime transport, but not necessarily on the vessel carrying your goods. The associated calculated emission reductions are allocated to your selected sea freight shipments with third party (Normec Verifavia) verified certificates.

Biogas from manure – fuel for maritime transport
The fuel used in our Maritime Biofuel Insets solution is liquefied biogas (LBG), produced from manure. Through anaerobic digestion, the manure is broken down to produce biogas, which is then upgraded and liquefied for use as marine fuel.
Instead of letting methane from the manure escape into the atmosphere, it is converted into renewable fuel that can be used to power ships. This reduces emissions both during production and when the fuel is burned.
This provides a renewable alternative to fossil liquefied natural gas (LNG). The climate impact depends on the production process, methane leakage and fuel use, and needs to be assessed across the fuel’s lifecycle.

LCL example (Less than Container Load)
These examples show the additional cost of Maritime Biofuel Insets for the sea leg from Shanghai to Hamburg, excluding the freight charge. Emission reductions are allocated through Book & Claim; the renewable fuel is not necessarily used on the vessel carrying your goods.

Fuel Switch Routes
Maritime Biofuel Insets are included as standard for the sea leg of all our Less-than-Container Load (LCL) import shipments from Shanghai to Gothenburg, at no extra cost to our customers.
Through Book & Claim, renewable fuel replaces fossil fuel in maritime transport, but not necessarily on the vessel carrying your goods. The associated calculated emission reductions are allocated to your shipment and documented.
No separate booking of Maritime Biofuel Insets is needed — the solution is already included on this route.
Documentation – Fuel Switch Routes
Fuel Switch Routes use the same documentation as Maritime Biofuel Insets. The offer applies to the sea leg Shanghai–Gothenburg.
HVO100 – Road Freight
Support the replacement of fossil diesel with HVO100, a renewable diesel alternative, without changing your transport setup. Our HVO100 solution is available for road freight flows through Book & Claim.
HVO100 is used in road transport, but not necessarily in the truck carrying your goods. The associated calculated emission reductions are allocated to your selected road freight flows and documented.
Contact us to discuss the transport flows you would like to include, pricing and the documentation provided.

SAF certificates – Air Freight
Support the replacement of fossil jet fuel with renewable aviation fuel through SAF certificates (SAFc), without changing your transport setup.
Through Book & Claim, the fuel is supplied for use in aviation, but not necessarily on the aircraft carrying your goods. The associated calculated emission reductions are allocated to your selected air freight flows and documented through SAF certificates.

Aviation fuel from waste and residues
The fuel’s lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions depend on the feedstock, production process and supply chain.
Waste materials and residues, such as used cooking oil and certain animal fats, can be processed into aviation fuel. These provide an alternative to fossil raw materials.

Calculation, verification and documentation
Understanding an emission reduction claim means knowing how it is calculated, what has been verified and what the supporting documentation covers.
How emission reductions are calculated
Emission reductions are calculated by comparing the lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions of the renewable fuel with a fossil fuel reference. The result depends on the feedstock, production process, calculation method and amount of fuel allocated. A percentage reduction for the fuel does not automatically represent the same reduction for your entire shipment.
What verification covers
Verification may cover different elements, such as the fuel’s origin, lifecycle emissions or the allocation of emission reductions through Book & Claim. The applicable scheme, verifier and scope should be considered separately for each solution.
Documentation and reporting
The calculated emission reductions allocated to your selected freight flows are documented. Using this documentation in your company’s emissions reporting depends on the requirements of the reporting framework you follow. A certificate does not automatically mean that the allocated reductions can be deducted from your Scope 3 inventory.
