Our approach to sustainability
Transport and logistics generate greenhouse gas emissions and affect the environment. As a freight forwarder, we have a role in addressing these impacts through the transport solutions we offer and our collaboration with customers and transport partners.
Our work includes offering renewable fuel solutions through Book & Claim for selected sea, air and road freight flows. These solutions support fuel replacement within the transport system.
For a broader overview of the Group’s sustainability work, read the Greencarrier Group Sustainability Report.

Renewable Fuel Solutions
Support the replacement of fossil fuels in sea, air and road freight without changing your transport setup. Explore Maritime Biofuel Insets, SAF certificates and HVO100, as well as Fuel Switch Routes, where Maritime Biofuel Insets are included on selected routes.
How it works
Our solutions use Book & Claim. Renewable fuel replaces fossil fuel within the relevant transport sector, but is not necessarily used in the vessel, aircraft or truck carrying your goods. The associated calculated emission reductions are allocated to your selected freight flows and documented.

Request your logistics emissions report
At Hecksher, we calculate emissions associated with your transports and provide emission reports to you as a customer. Calculations are performed using EcoTransIT, with a methodology aligned with the GLEC Framework (Global Logistics Emissions Council) and ISO 14083.
Our reports cover greenhouse gas emissions expressed as carbon dioxide equivalents (CO₂e), as well as air pollutants such as sulphur dioxides (SO₂) and nitrogen oxides (NOx). This information helps you understand emissions associated with your transport flows and make informed logistics decisions.

Climate efficiency in logistics
We encourage you, as a customer, to always consider the most sustainable alternative for your shipment. The example below compares common modes of transport. For the same type of freight, sea freight stands out as the most environmentally friendly option, as it produces the lowest average emissions. (Note that sea freight might not be the most suitable for all type of shipments.)

How are we doing?
Reduce our emissions
CO2 emissions for the group
More information
CO2 emissions refer to the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere which is measured by thousands tons (kt).
The data covers the logistics operations of Hecksher.

Carbon intensity
CO2 per tonne-km sea freight
CO2 per tonne-km air freight
CO2 per tonne-km road freight
More information
g CO2/tonne-km is a measure of the amount of CO2 emitted per tonne of goods transported over a kilometer.

Social responsibility: Partnering for a sustainable impact
As a part of the Greencarrier group, our corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives are coordinated through the Greencarrier Spirit Fund.
Through the Greencarrier Spirit Fund, we have a proud history of taking social responsibility in our local communities. Every year, we allocate 1% of the group’s profits to various CSR-related projects. Our colleagues are then able to apply to the fund with a project or an organisation, that they think could use the help of Greencarrier. This allows us to maintain committed employees as well as diversify our CSR projects. We also allocate parts of the funds for partnerships, as we strive for long-term commitments.
Key partnership
At Hecksher, the Sweden-based social enterprise Solvatten has been a key partner since 2018. Solvatten is a Swedish organization committed to providing safe and clean water to families in developing countries through a portable water treatment and heating system. Since 2024, Hecksher has been Solvatten’s exclusive logistics partner. Read more about Solvatten.
