Starting in Q2 2023, Hecksher have delivered a first set of GHG emission reports to customers based in Sweden. The report tracks customers’ emissions in terms of carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide and nitrous oxide; each and one important to track in order to reduce their prevalence.
For Hecksher, the emission reports have been in development for some time, and it is with great pleasure that they now are handed over to the end-customers on the Swedish market. While these reports have been proactively developed by Hecksher, there is also an increasing demand for this type of reports among customers. As such, there is a notable, positive trend in tracking one’s emissions.
Then, why is it important for any company to track their GHG emissions? The data surveying emissions gives an indication of the extent of an organisation’s ecological footprint. Through tracking, a company can then set targets and further implement measures to lower emissions. Moreover, tracking and reporting on emissions will become even more important in the time to come. New EU-regulations will make sustainability reporting more rigid and additional companies must comply to specific reporting standards.
To compile the reports, Hecksher uses the solution EcoTransIT World. The emissions calculator is widely used among logistic companies. EcoTransIT has a thoroughly developed methodology, compliant with several standards for emissions reporting, including the EU standard EN 16258.
Whereas reports now have been generated for the Swedish customer basis, reports are readily available for any Hecksher customer, regardless of country of origin. Indeed, GHG emission has global effects—it is important that the efforts to mitigate global warming and climate change also are global.
Through increased monitoring and reporting, companies in the global logistics market becomes more aware of the challenges resulted by emissions. Raising awareness is key to develop more sustainable solution. Hopefully, emissions reports from Hecksher can be a small piece in the strive for more sustainable logistics.
